Titus Case's and Dr. Cox's House

825 E Olentangy St. where the Powell Methodist Church parking lot is now located. The original house was built in 1835 by Titus Case, a farmer and Presbyterian minister, who came to Delaware County in 1806 at age 9. Dr. Dana Cox, an obstetrician with Grant Hospital, purchased the house in the 1950’s and did extensive remodeling and additions, making it into a beautiful 3200-square-foot Southern Colonial style home. After Dr. Cox’s sudden death of a cerebral hemorrhage in the barn’s haymow in 1967, the house was rented briefly to Nick Clooney who contracted to start a morning television show in Columbus in 1968. His son, George Clooney, was seven at the time and attended school at St. Michaels in Worthington while living here in Powell. The last owner of the house was Dr. Joe Goodman, from 1983 until 2001, when the property was purchased to expand the parking lot of the Powell Methodist Church, built in 1989. Powell Liberty Historical Society members wrote letters to the editor to save the house. There were no takers when the church offered the house at the cost of $1.00, to anyone who would move it. Thus, another Powell historic landmark was lost to the wrecking ball.
