Jim Lowry operated a sugar camp just north of Powell, collecting sap and transporting it to a "sugarhouse" cabin where it was boiled and purified to make maple syrup. Today, Marge Bennett, who is related to Jim Lowry, continues a tradition of donating Maple Syrup for Pancake Day.

Inspired by an episode of "Sunday Morning" on CBS, Carole writes a collection of interesting Powell facts, starting with movies once being shown by being projected onto the back of Canfield and Sharp's Hardware Store, with viewers sitting in the grass behind the building. In another segment, donated postcards show scenes of Powell that include structures that no longer exist, personal portrait photographs, and humorous cartoons. Blanche Lowry, a Powell resident born in 1904, kept a scrapbook of written material including poetry, obituaries, quilt patterns, political cartoons, jokes, and letters to the editor. Some content of interest she choose to include are news clippings of World War I, the Russian Revolution, the life of Queen Victoria, and a poet laureate of the Ohio Penitentiary. The scrapbook also contained religious content such as " A Verse For Today" poetry, scripture versus, and an article about three short prayers William Jennings Bryan dictated before he passed away.

Louise Cornish, a key figure in saving the Martin-Perry house and founding the Powell historical society, passed away on Dec. 1, 2000. As a direct descendant of the pilgrims and early Powell settlers, she felt it was important to preserve Powell history. This, along with her love of teaching, storytelling, family genealogy, and volunteering for the Delaware County Historical and Genealogical Society led to her saving the Martin-Perry House. Her daughters Jo Cornish-Gerwig and Janet Wartman worked on the society's newsletter and she wrote several articles covering people, land, and homes in the area and expressed her belief in the importance of passing down family stories.

1888-1891 insurance records researched and reviewed by volunteers Maggie Webb and Dee Tiberi reveal the Martin-Perry House was built by Timothy Colvin, the great-grandfather of Louise Cornish, who led the effort to save the house from demolition. In 1890, the house was insured for six-hundred dollars while household items including a pipe-organ and sewing machine were ensured for three-hundred dollars.

In light of the coming Ken Burns WW II documentary, Charles Osgood publishes his memories of growing up during WW II. Growing up in Baltimore, he and his sister followed the war closely, and he recalls planting victory gardens and collecting scrap metal, along with his discovery and love of songs by Stephen Foster. In 1997, for the 50th anniversary of Powell's incorporation, Louise Cornish gave a story recalling a 1947 memorial day program honoring servicemen, the continued use of victory gardens, and the main sources of entertainment being from school, church, and lodge activities.

The first Powell Post Office was established in 1857, and served about 1,000 customers by the time of its 100th year anniversary in 1957. By 1970, population growth was burdening the Powell Post Office, requiring support from the Dublin Post Office to take on more customers. The ancestors of Jean Kirkham, a lifelong Powell resident, operated several local businesses including a mill, fill station, hardware store, mercantile shop, and millinery shop, as well as building and carpentry services. Among these businesses and services was the creation of a public reading room in 1905 on the second floor of the IOOF building. The reading room was built and maintained with donations and stocked with 55 books including "Pride and Prejudice", "The Swiss Family Robinson", and "The Great Civil War".

A fruit farm once was 3 miles north of Worthington on U.S. route 23. A interview with the only daughter of the fruit farm owners, Molly Brown Caren was found by the author. The first Methodist society in Liberty Township, organized by a Rev. Emery in 1825, initially met in homes. Over the years, the Methodist presence grew in Powell (Middlebury), with the construction of Emery Chapel in 1840 and another church building on South Liberty Street in 1859. In the February of 1950, the Powell PTA held an event honoring Jim Brown and Lester Grace, longtime employees at the Powell schoolhouse. Jim Brown worked as a school bus driver starting as a senior in 1911, taking up the position as his full time job until 1948, when he became the school custodian. Lester Grace began teaching in Powell in 1907; by 1950 he had taught about 500 students. Both were remembered fondly by students for their patience and kindness, and were given student made memory books, golden watches, and were treated to a women's and men's chorus during the event.

A newly restored traffic light with directional signs dating from the 1920's is placed outside of the Powell Municipal Building for public display. In a 1948 ceremony, Ohio governor Thomas J. Herbert threw the switch for 21 new automatic streetlights in the center of Powell. The ceremony included recognition for the mayor, village council members, merchantmen, farmers, and the civic spirit of Powell as a whole.

When Louise Cornish discovered the Martin-Perry house was soon to be demolished, she had only two weeks to organize a fundraiser to save the house. The effort to save the house led to the creation of the Powell Liberty Historical Society with Louise, her daughters, and two other members forming its early nucleus. Campaigning to raise money and support from various members of the community including the mayor led to the house and land being donated to the Society by the developer the following year.

Her family history also includes Rebecca Nurse, a victim of the Salem Witch Trials.
