Powell School
A photo (circa 1911) shows the newly built Powell School, located on top of the hill facing Powell Road at Grace Drive. Students from first through 12th grades were educated at this “Monument on the Hill.” Powell High School graduated classes from 1912 until 1953, when the new Olentangy High School opened. Powell School then became an elementary school for students through eighth grade. After Liberty Union School opened in 1963, Powell School held classes just through fifth grade, and finally before closing in 1973, the school served only kindergarten through third grade. Sadly, the building was torn down in 1977.
