In 1929 after O'Shaughnessey Dam was built, former White House chef Henri Peyraud offered fine dining at this Riverside Drive restaurant. The Inn became a popular gathering place after WWII when it served still-rationed beer. Over the years the restaurant continued to feature house specialties such as prime rib and veal Oscar and expanded to add banquet and party rooms and a screened “Zoo View Porch.” After several name and ownership changes, the state bought the property in 2006 and donated it to the Zoo, which tore the Inn down when the Zoo entrance moved to Powell Road.
