A window into the past of Powell and Liberty Township

The Home Road Bridge

The covered bridge, also known as the Liberty Bridge, was built in approximately 1850. A steel truss bridge was constructed in 1913 after the devastating flood that year. In 1987, the bridge was considered the worst bridge in Delaware County because the load limit was inadequate to handle traffic. Following a 2 1/2 year closure, a replacement bridge opened in June 1991. In 2020, the Home Road Bridge was widened with two through lanes and left turn lanes at the intersection with SR 315.

Pictured on the old covered wooden bridge are hikers from Powell. The date it was taken is unknown, but it probably was early 1900s.
