County Fair in Powell
Did you know that from 1909 to 1937 the Delaware County Fair was held in Powell? Dr. John Campbell leased l2 acres next to his large home on Powell Road, west of the railroad tracks, to the Delaware County Agricultural Society. The Fair had a small midway, a merry-go-round, a grandstand and track for horse racing in the afternoons, and a bandstand with square dancing at night. School children from all over the county exhibited their best artwork, livestock, and 4-H projects, while women displayed needlework, baked goods and garden produce. Early events included a milking contest, ladies hitching contest and a pony turnout.

The Residence of Dr. John Campbell
The residence is still standing on the south side of Olenatangy St. just west of the railroad tracks. When Dr. and Mrs. Campbell's daughter, Ethel Crist, was married, the house was cut into two and the back half moved west. The part that was moved is currently (2023) occupied by Milano's Florist.
