Description
This document contains a number of records, essays, summaries and personal narratives about the schools of Liberty Township. Much of the material addressed the Township District period from the early 1800's until 1914 when Township districts were eliminated, and county wide districts were established. There is also material covering the county district period from 1914 to 1953 when the second consolidation of districts created the district that ultimately became the Olentangy Local School District. This History is updated regularly so check back periodically if you are interested in local school history.

Description:

May Duffy's handwritten description of the history of the Liberty Township Schools from the mid 1890's to 1914. The school system underwent rapid change during this period and Miss Duffy was a student and teacher throughout.

Paul Lybarger was the Delaware County Superintendent of Schools from 1914 to ?. This was the initial period after passage of the law establishing county wide districts.

A list of Powell High School Alumni from 1898 to 1953 compiled by the Alumni Committee for the 1995 Reunion. The Powell High School closed at the start of the 1953-54 academic year.

A brief summary of the history of the Powell School including some information describint the situation before the "Monument on the Hill" opened in 1911. There are some minor, but commonly used, misconceptions including the purpose of the Boxwell Exam and the term "Grader." More details can be found elsewhere on the site.
